Pablo Dalas was born in France in 1990, he lives and works in Brussels.
Fascinated by the cartoon world of the 1920s, Pablo draws his inspiration from the work of Dave and Max Fleischer, creator of Popeye, Betty Boop… One of the few animation studios to survive silent film.
Other cartoonists like Robert Crumb, creator of Fritz the Cat's and Ralph Bakshi, animator and director of the feature film of the same name, gave him a taste for subversion. Because indeed, this cult animated film holds two records! It is the first American cartoon to have been X-rated and the second, to exceed 100 million in revenue with independent studio status.
The cult characters of Walt Disney (pluto, the seven dwarfs), Tex Avery (the wolf), Otto Messmer (Felix the cat) and the advertising mascots, will be his main source of inspiration. He hijacks the familiar figures of his childhood to portray a society rife with overabundance and excess.
A multifaceted artist, Pablo seems overwhelmed by his characters who come to life on different media. From skin to wall painting, through ceramics and cartoons.
