Biography
Giorgi Sardlishvili is a self-taught Georgian contemporary artist born in 1991 who works and lives in Tbilisi, Georgia. His artistic journey began unexpectedly in 2019, at the age of 27. What started as an impulse soon transformed into a life-changing calling, surprising not only those around him but also himself. Before becoming an artist, Giorgi worked as a railway dispatcher. Leaving behind a stable profession, he chose to dedicate himself entirely to painting. Through relentless practice, experimentation, and independent study, he rapidly developed his technical skills, exploring the work of both historical and contemporary artists while deepening his understanding of pigments, paint-making, and traditional materials. Working primarily in oil, Giorgi has developed a distinctive visual language that explores the hidden dimensions of human consciousness. His paintings inhabit the space between the figurative and the abstract, where blurred faces, fragmented identities, and dreamlike forms emerge from layered textures and expressive brushwork. Rather than telling explicit stories, his works invite viewers into an emotional and psychological landscape shaped by memory, vulnerability, fear, and transformation. Many viewers have been drawn to his work since his earliest paintings, describing them as haunting, intimate, and deeply personal. Some have called them “mirrors of the soul," while others see them as visual explorations of the invisible anatomy of the human psyche. His expressive handling of oil paint gives an almost tangible presence to the phantoms and emotions that inhabit his canvases. As an emerging artist, Giorgi continues to refine his practice while forging an artistic identity that is unmistakably his own. He has participated in local exhibitions and is steadily expanding his presence beyond Georgia, with the ambition of sharing his work with an international audience. His long-term vision is to build a sustainable career through his art, support himself and those close to him, collaborate with fellow artists, and create projects and workshops that foster meaningful artistic dialogue. Above all, Giorgi remains committed to continuous growth, believing that art has the power to reveal what words often cannot.
