Sen Shombit

SEN SHOMBIT is a Franco-Indian painter passionate about color and movement. His art results from the interbreeding between the exuberance that characterizes his native country and the spontaneity he draws from Impressionism. Born in India in 1954, Sen spent much of his childhood in a refugee camp, his family falling victim to the exile caused by the partition of Bengal. His father, a great admirer of France, instilled in him his love for the land of freedom and equality. At 15, he showed his passion for drawing. At the Calcutta library, he discovers Van-Gogh. It was her mother who offered her the European adventure by selling her wedding bracelet to pay for the trip to Paris. In France, he managed to survive by working for the Jacques Gourdon lithography workshop in Cachan. When this company closed its doors in 1976, SEN took refuge in marketing. It was during this period that he created the packaging for Danone's organic brand, which would later become Activia. On the pictorial level, he develops an art which has its source in Impressionism but which it extends in what he calls GESTURISM. He is the inventor of paintings made up of different parts that can be placed in any order or disorder like a puzzle which would allow hundreds of combinations. Thus the recipient of the work himself becomes a creator. .
