Frank Cianuro

Italy

Biography

Frank Cianuro is a contemporary Italian artist whose work follows a path that is instinctive, playful, and deliberately irreverent. Through a practice rooted in automatic drawing, diversion, and humor, he has developed a visual language that escapes academic constraints.

A raw and expressive aesthetic
With his series “Crunk", Cianuro explores forms that emerge from spontaneous drawings, made with his non-dominant hand, often with his eyes closed. These are combined with simple or industrial materials — aluminum wire, rubber, plastic — in a pursuit of free gesture and instinctive form.

His visual universe embraces awkward figures, visual irony, and pop-cultural references, all carried by a raw, unapologetic energy.

He turns imperfection into a signature, and the act of drawing into a statement.

The Acrobatic Flyez – The poetry of the insignificant
In his series The Acrobatic Flyez, Cianuro transforms the fly — a symbol of banality or disgust — into tiny acrobatic characters. Sculpted, named, and certified, each becomes a singular art object.

Each “Flyez" represents a joyful disruption of codes, inviting us to question what is worth our attention, with lightness and wit.

A parallel world where the insignificant becomes precious, and humor becomes a critical tool.

Free and subversive art
Cianuro challenges the hierarchies of taste and aesthetic expectations. His joyfully irreverent work rejects technical mastery in favor of vitality, spontaneity, and play. He cultivates a deeply authentic and immediate aesthetic — one that is neither polished nor cynical.
