Alfonso Leto

Alfonso Leto was born in S.Stefano Quisquina (Agrigento) 1956. After reworking the spirit of the Transavanguardi, he exhibited his works in the ancient hermitage of Quisquina, presented by Achille Bonito Oliva and Fulvio Abbate, in 1987. In 1990, his first personal and group exhibition experiences in Rome, at the gallery the Nuova Pesa, also collaborating with the Centoerbe magazine, participating in various and important exhibition events: Palazzo delle Esposizioni (Young Artists IV-1992 / Michetti Prize-1992 and Marche Prize 1994, both by Renato Barilli). 

His works are always characterized by a solar and Mediterranean irony. In 1999 he created the "Joyful Mysteries": apocryphal visions of religion filtered by a telematic sensitivity «Disembodied by any specific interest, Leto's art produces a lethal language for every common sense, always linked to the economy of a practical reason», writes Achille Bonito Oliva.
