Biography

Painter & Interior Designer

Alvis Zemzaris is a painter and interior designer who explores the genre of urban landscape, capturing the nocturnal spirit of cities like Riga and London on large-scale canvases. His works glow with nighttime atmosphere, where iconic London scenes—such as Covent Garden or Oxford Street—come alive under the soft shimmer of streetlights. Even a simple road marking like “Look right" becomes an aesthetic statement, reflecting the pulse of the metropolis.

Zemzaris consistently paints the city at night—where diffused light from lanterns reflects on wet asphalt, and bare tree branches reveal the web of city streets. His urban scenes are marked by both subtle drama and poetic stillness.

Beyond Riga and London, Zemzaris has also painted cityscapes of Amsterdam and Visby, along with philosophically rich still lifes that highlight everyday objects with deeper meaning—such as , , and . His work is characterized by a refined harmony of color, dynamic urban compositions, and an impressive precision in capturing material textures.

Alvis Zemzaris graduated from Jānis Rozentāls Riga Art High School in 1980 and later earned a degree in Art Sociology from the University of Latvia's Faculty of History and Philosophy in 1986. He has been exhibiting his work since 1982, is a member of the Latvian Artists' Union since 1997, and a member of the Latvian Designers' Union since 2002.
