Biography

Helen Khal (1923–2009) was a Lebanese-American painter, art critic, and teacher, a pioneer of modern Lebanese art. Born in the United States, she moved to Lebanon in 1946, studied at ALBA, and later at the Art Students League of New York. A co-founder of Galerie One in Beirut, she played a major role in the Lebanese art scene. Her work evolved from figurative painting to abstract compositions focused on color, emotion, and form.
