Biography
Edvarda Aslaksen Braanaas is a figurative painter from Norway, with a foundation in the cultural transition of in the 80s and 90s. In particular, this has inspired her fascination with the distinction between high art and pop culture. Since her visual language is literary and communicative, Edvarda has worked on a number of different projects at the intersection of art and illustration, literature and digital surfaces. She considers herself part of the ongoing wave in which the boundaries of where and how art can be experienced are constantly being expanded.
Since 2011 Edvarda has been based in both Los Angeles and Oslo. The same year she launched the iPhone app “The Lolita Story" featuring 52 illustrations inspired by Vladimir Nabokov's world classic “Lolita". “Dostoyevsky's Heroines" - a series of paintings where she transformed five of the most prominent female characters in Fyodor Dostoevsky's authorship into modern day poster models - has been shown at several exhibitions.
