Biography

Waseem Ahmed is a Pakistani painter, born in 1976 in Hyderabad, in South of Pakistan. He studied at the National College of Arts, Lahore and still lives there. Ahmed has become an inescapable artist of contemporary miniature painting and is part of the South Asian line of artists, who use tradition as a means of innovation.

Ahmed mostly draws inspiration from classic and traditional art, Western and Eastern art but also through the many people who surround him and with whom he is constantly in touch.
Waseem Ahmed: " I notice how people evolve during social times, religions times and political times. I try to create a link between intellectuals and ordinary people, who I come across in my everyday life. Currently, I have turned my work towards social and political questions, an aspect I encounter in the world of Islam and therefore I am a permanent eye witness of this".

Since 1993, Ahmed's work has been exhibited in several museums and galleries in Pakistan, but also Australia, Greece, France, India, Japan, Nepal, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. His art is also present in major public and private collections like the Asian art museum o, Berlin, The British Museum in London, The Virginia Whiles Collections (UK), The Anupam Podar Collections (India), Salima Hashmi (Pakistan).
