Karim Abushakra

Karim Abu Shakra (b. 1982, Umm al-Fahm) is a Palestinian contemporary artist whose work explores memory, identity, belonging, nature, and the relationship between people and place. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, he combines figurative painting, abstraction, and surreal imagery to create poetic and deeply personal compositions.

Raised in an artistic family, Abushakra was influenced by his late uncle, the acclaimed Palestinian artist Asim Abushakra. The cactus, or , a recurring motif in Karim's work, reflects themes of resilience, rootedness, and survival.

A graduate of Beit Berl College, Abu Shakra has exhibited extensively in Palestine and internationally. His practice draws on childhood memories, landscapes, animals, plants, and everyday experiences, transforming them into dreamlike worlds that connect the personal with the collective and the local with the universal.
