Amjad Ghannam is a Palestinian artist whose work explores confinement, freedom, political violence, displacement, memory, and the experience of time under occupation. Through acrylic on wood, he combines abstraction and figuration with distorted figures and expressive compositions. His work transforms experiences of imprisonment and political oppression into psychological and symbolic images, examining the relationship between the individual, memory, and political reality.
Born in Jerusalem in 1981, Ghannam began developing his artistic practice while studying in Cyprus and later pursued art independently. His experience of detention in 2010 became an important turning point in his practice and led to his participation in Khaled Hourani’s Picasso in Palestine project. His work has since been exhibited internationally, including at dOCUMENTA 13 in Kassel and the Qalandiya International Biennial, as well as in exhibitions in Palestine, Europe, and Asia. Ghannam lives and works in Ramallah, where he continues to develop his artistic practice.
