"When I start a work, I live for it and only rest when I achieve perfection, as much realism as possible"

Biography

Gustavo Fernandes, a remarkable artist whose career has flourished between Canada and Portugal for over 27 years. With a profound dedication to painting, his work has been exhibited internationally, earning recognition for its striking realism and depth.

Educated at the Montreal School of Fine Arts – Mission Renaissance and the Art and Graphic Design program at Dawson College, Gustavo Fernandes refined his technique through Betty Edwards' methods, including and by Nicolides. He also trained in portraiture under the guidance of Francisco de Oliveira.

Self-taught, creative, and bold, his work stands out for its hyper-realistic quality, capturing objects, landscapes, and people with astonishing detail. Constantly seeking artistic freedom, he masterfully navigates painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography, using a diverse color palette applied with technical precision and strong, steady strokes.
