Biography

Helen Burkova (Elena Burkova, b. Saratov, Russia) is a contemporary artist whose work explores the transformation of emotions into creative force. She lives and works in Saratov and in 2025 was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. Burkova is a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia and the Eurasian Art Union.

Her artistic practice lies at the intersection of abstract expressionism and symbolism. She develops conceptual series that act as visual models of psychological processes, reflecting how challenging emotional states can be alchemized into constructive energy. In her works, symbolism and surrealist aesthetics merge into layered metaphors of inner states. She works with a wide range of materials, from oil, acrylic, and watercolor to her own mixed-media methods with Venetian plaster, producing complex textures and tactile depth.

Burkova has presented personal exhibitions, including (2024, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation) and (2023, Gorod Masterov, Saratov). She has participated in more than 40 group exhibitions since 2022. Highlights include the XIV Moscow International Art Festival (2025); ART3F Luxembourg (2024); , the International Watercolor Festival in Khabarovsk; in Mexico City (3rd prize, Symbolism); (1st prize, Avant-garde Painting); and (1st and 2nd prize in Graphics, 3rd prize in Digital Art). Her works are held in private collections in Russia, Austria, Mexico, and China.

Her ongoing project focuses on turning emotional intensity into visual metaphors that encourage reflection, clarity, and resilience. For Burkova, art is not a depiction of reality but a dialogue with it—an offering of light, perspective, and empowerment.
