Biography
Rosa Basurto is a self-taught photographer who has become highly regarded for her original and uniquely stylized work.
Originally a painter with no formal photographic training, Basurto demonstrates an impressive command of different photographic techniques, producing images that are poetic in style, and which create an imaginary and dream-like world within a seemingly naturalistic landscape.
Although each image features life-like subjects such as trees, and birds in flight, the spaces they occupy create an alternative, more mysterious atmosphere; Basurto leads us into the darker landscape of the imagination.
Basurto has received numerous awards and honourable commendations, including for (Un)Familiar, the Julia Margaret Cameron Award 2010/2012, and the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2007.
