Biography

Juan José Vicente Ramírez is a contemporary Spanish painter celebrated for his evocative maritime scenes, atmospheric interiors, and refined monochromatic compositions. Born in Madrid in 1968, his work is distinguished by a masterful command of chiaroscuro, subtle tonal transitions, and an extraordinary ability to transform simple subjects into deeply emotional visual experiences.

Working primarily in mixed media and oil on canvas, Vicente explores themes of solitude, stillness, memory, and contemplation. Boats, reflections, horizons, and quiet architectural spaces frequently appear throughout his oeuvre, creating poetic metaphors that invite introspection and emotional connection.

In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious 50th Reina Sofía Prize for Painting and Sculpture, organized by the Asociación Española de Pintores y Escultores, one of Spain’s most respected artistic institutions. His award-winning work, , was selected by a distinguished jury that included renowned Spanish artists such as Antonio López and Rafael Canogar.

Juan José Vicente Ramírez has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, as well as national and international art fairs. He is also widely recognized in Spain for his achievements in plein-air painting competitions, where he has received multiple awards and distinctions throughout his career.

His works are held in institutional and private collections, including the Railway Museum, the Air Force Museum, and the city councils of Madrid and Sigüenza, as well as private collections in cities such as Barcelona, Paris, Ghent, The Hague, Amsterdam, Milan, Lisbon, New York, and Mexico City.

Through his restrained palettes and contemplative atmospheres, Vicente has established himself as one of the most distinctive contemporary Spanish painters working between figuration and abstraction.
