Pierrette Bloch

Pierrette Bloch is a Swiss artist, born June 16, 1928 in Paris, she died in the same city on July 7, 2017.
From 1947 to 1948, she studied with Henri Goetz and André Lhote. She befriends Colette and Pierre Soulages. In 1951, her first solo exhibitions were held in Paris as well as in the United States, where she stayed several times. Her abstract work is related to the practice of drawing, collage and sculpture.
She worked on her first collages from 1953 onwards. In 1973 she worked on her first stitches and in 1984, she used horsehair threads bought without any precise intention, these hair will become visual paths. She weaved, braided, knitted, embroidered the horsehair to create lines up to several meters long.
In 1994, she made her first lines of paper. She used Indian ink, oil or dry pastel, graphite, charcoal, chalk. She reproduced ad infinitum gestures on rolls of paper of variable length and width. They form bands creating a rhythm that she calls "place of uncertainty".
In 2005, the Pro-MAHJ Foundation awarded the 2005 Maratier Prize to Pierrette Bloch for all of her work.
