Mustafa Ali

Mustafa Ali was born in Latakia Syria in 1956 and although his uniquely dynamic sculptures have given him recognition and placement in many galleries across the world Ali has remained true to his heritage. Ali has given back to his community as director of the Damascus art center as well as through the Mustafa Ali Art Foundation. He has become one of the most widely collected sculpturists of the Arab world but his works can be related to by everyone as his sculptural figures draw upon the rawness of the human figure. Ali's work evokes the imagery of nature alongside the fragility of mankind, introducing the viewer to a figure altogether otherworldly yet familiar in a natural way.

Ali began his studies at the Plastic Arts Center and later at the Applied Arts Center through the Syrian Ministry of Culture, after graduating from both of these he went on to train in Damascus. After finishing his training in sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus in 1979; he continued his studies at the Fine Arts Academy in Carrara Italy graduating in 1996.
