Biography
Born in 1959, Nick Cave is an American sculptor. He is best known for his Soundsuit series. A unique blend of fashion and sculpture, the series features costumes created from found objects. Vibrant, playful and supernatural, the suits were originally created in response to the murder of Rodney King as a vehicle of empowerment.
The first museum retrospective of Cave's works opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago before being displayed at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. Alongside his artistic pursuits, Cave is a director of the graduate fashion program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2022, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.
