Biography

Thea Gregorius is a contemporary artist whose practice unfolds primarily through sculptural works on paper and the artisanal production of paper. Her work is part of a sensitive exploration of the paradoxes of nature, where instinct and structure, fragility and rigor meet.
A graduate of New York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, she currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, where she pursues a body of work marked by the poetry of gesture, extreme attention to detail, and a deep exploration of space and matter.
Working almost intuitively on a microscopic scale, she creates compositions that, from a distance, reveal themselves as methodically organized wholes. Through meticulous gestures, she explores the capacity of drawing to transcend its own limitations and inhabit space beyond the two-dimensional plane.
Through the introduction of micro-perforations, resembling delicate punctures, Thea Gregorius initiates a subtle and controlled process of destruction that transforms the paper's surface into a vibrant territory. Her work thus becomes a meditation on sculpture, while retaining the intimacy, precision, and immediacy of drawing. Between presence and absence, matter and void, her works invite silent and immersive contemplation.
