John Fawcett

JOHN FAWCETT (1952 - ): John Fawcett is an American Western artist born in 1952 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Originally trained as a veterinarian, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University in 1978 and practiced veterinary medicine for nearly two decades before pursuing art full-time. Largely self-taught, Fawcett is known for detailed paintings of horses, cattle, dogs, cowboys, ranchers, and other subjects associated with the American West. His firsthand experience with animals informs his sensitive and anatomically accurate portrayals, while his work often emphasizes the close relationship between people, animals, and the Western landscape. His paintings have been featured in prominent Western art exhibitions and are held in collections including the Eiteljorg Museum and the Booth Western Art Museum.
