Blade (Steven Ogburn)

United States • 1957

Biography

Born in the Bronx, New York in 1957, Blade claimed early in his life his right for social recognition through a particularly evocative nickname: Blade (cutter blade). He started to express himself through graffiti in 1973, the artist used the walls of abandoned or squatted buildings, the bus and Metro of New York as support of his art.

Nicknamed "The King of Kings", he founded the TC5 (Crazy five), one of the most famous groups in the history of graffiti, which worked on the metro lines 2 and 5 running from New York's Bronx to Brooklyn.

Blade developed a very original style that will never be "Wild Style", since he constantly renews his lettering, giving it a unique dimension: playing with perspective and abstract geometric forms, his lettering style is very imaginative. In 1981, he started painting alongside his graffiti artwork.

He has work on more than 5000 trains, he is considered a legend of ancient graffiti.
