Description

The work, a fascinating vanitas, depicts a skull adorned with delicate flowers and leaves, poignant symbols of life's fleeting beauty. They appear to spring from the skull, expressing a contrast between vitality and death. The bridal wreath placed atop the skull suggests life in the face of inevitable human destiny. Below, a pair of satin shoes and flowers rest on a cushion. The composition is a striking visual reminder of the transient nature of existence. The rich textures and minute details demonstrate exceptional technical mastery, captivating the viewer with its symbolic depth and elegant execution. This work engages the audience in reflecting on mortality, transformation, and the fleeting beauty of our world.

Odona Bones

France  • 1980

Presentation

Born in 1980 (Calais, France).

After a schooling split between Fine Arts (Calais) and Applied Arts (Roubaix), Odona Bones began her professional career in the world of textiles and fashion.

In 2020, she began a personal drawing project. Produced with a fine point (Fineliners diameter 005), her rich compositions largely echo those created and then printed during the exhibition of the popular press of the 19th century. The artist seems to evoke a maximalist neo-symbolism mixing artistic, literary and sacred references, into which her own symbolic and autobiographical mysticism is integrated; the unconscious, dreams, awakening, healing, mental processes and metamorphosis are subjects.

Odona Bones draws mostly on carefully assembled paper from the first half of the 20th century. Preparatory research is carried out, reflecting the themes that occupy her at the time and whose representational possibilities she examines.

The artist is currently working on a series inspired by the Arcana of the Tarot of Marseille, whose representations represent the stages of self-construction and development - notions that have become, under her influence, tools for self-creation and exploration.

Two other ongoing series are devoted to Vanities and Ex-Votos, which she perceives as talismans of healing and concentration of sacred positive thought.
