Description
This original work fuses cartography and figurative art, revealing an intriguing scene. A female figure, with stylized and calming features, occupies the center, her body harmoniously aligned with cartographic elements in the background. Her arms form a fluid connection with two continents, evoking the unity and diversity of the world. At the top, a male figure, balanced on a rope, creates dynamic tension while manipulating geographical elements, perhaps symbolizing exploration and discovery. The soft, earthy colors harmonize with the cartographic background, creating an ambiance that is both serene and captivating. The bold use of the map as a backdrop is not only decorative but also an invitation to rethink borders and spaces, making this work a powerful visual commentary on human interconnectedness.
Presentation
Born in the Tarn in 1968, her creations imbued with figurative scenes resonate with Fernand Léger's characters. It is this same universe that Clara Castagné stages, on school geographical or anatomical maps that cultivated our minds during childhood. Its main themes are family scenes, mythology, the human body. His figures, with a roundness reminiscent of the silhouettes of modern artists, Léger, Matisse, Picasso, take and give life to geographical maps or anatomical plates.
Clara Castagné renews the art of collage and superposition, dear to the artists of the Bauhaus or the modern movement. His work tells us a story while reminding us of our elementary school lessons.
