Description
Knowledge is a Weapon" by Biko Scatcherd is a powerful work that merges knowledge, drastic measures, and the art of war. Presented in the form of a firearm, the artwork replaces bullets with pencils and ink pens. The other components of the weapon are replaced with rulers, compasses, and other measuring and knowledge instruments, illustrating how intellectual tools can become weapons in the fight against ignorance and injustice. These objects, symbols of education, highlight the ability of knowledge to transform individuals and societies.
The work also incorporates the concept of “drastic measures," where measuring instruments become metaphors for extreme decisions, such as defending oneself, fighting, or even killing for justice. Inspired by the principles of the art of war, it evokes intellectual and tactical strategies, reminding us that knowledge, like warfare, requires planning, discernment, and sometimes radical actions to achieve victory.
In this fusion of the tools of knowledge and the symbols of war, Biko questions how knowledge can be used as both a weapon of defense and conquest, capable of battling oppressive forces. The artwork reflects the idea that knowledge, much like military tactics, can become a weapon of destruction or protection depending on the circumstances, in the pursuit of justice and truth.
Presentation
Biko Scatcherd is a Montreal-based tattoo artist specializing in detailed, often dark or street-culture-themed tattoos. Working out of studios like Pirates Ink, he is known for his work in gangster-style sleeves, intricate designs, and, according to Instagram content, has been associated with lowrider culture and events like the Montreal Tattoo.
