Description
This anthropomorphic sculpture humorously subverts the familiar image of a banana, giving it an expressive and theatrical personality. Finished in a mirror-like chrome with brilliant metallic reflections, it is partially wrapped in a wide silver adhesive strip that appears to hold it captive.
The caricatured face, with its bulging eyes and furrowed brows, conveys an emotion of panic or revolt. The wide-open mouth reinforces this impression of a silent scream, as if the character were desperately trying to escape its strange restraint. The spindly arms accentuate the cartoonish aspect and bring the whole scene to life with an almost burlesque energy.
At the crossroads of pop art, street art, and contemporary sculpture, the artwork plays with the codes of the absurd and self-deprecation. The contrast between the glossy, almost luxurious surface and the banality of the tape creates an intriguing visual tension. Both amusing and slightly provocative, this banana immediately captivates the eye and brings an offbeat, modern, and decidedly pop touch to its surroundings.
Presentation
In each sculpture, Sagrasse places a fragment of humanity, an emotion kneaded into the material, like a breath that crosses time.
Born in 1966 in Macerata, in the Marche region of Italy, Sagrasse has dedicated his life to sculpture for over thirty years. Driven by a constant passion for material and form, he has developed an artistic language that is both contemporary and profoundly human.
His works are exhibited throughout the world, in galleries, private exhibitions, and spaces dedicated to art. This international career reflects a recognition acquired over time, driven by the sincerity and strength of his work.
Sagrasse's creations address contemporary and universal themes : ecology, social ideologies, and the relationship between man and his environment. His sculpture thus becomes a space for reflection, where consciousness and aesthetics, questioning and emotion intertwine.
