"Each pictorial composition is formed by a collection of images I collect from my surroundings in my daily life. The repertoire extends to objects, flowers, landscapes, labels, drawings, and pictures transformed into prints on canvas or cotton prepared with acrylic paint. Painting renews its meaning every time an artist reinvents a way of painting."
Edu Verenguel

Edu Verenguel developed a vigorous production with solid iconographic and symbolic reading throughout his career. The impermanence associated with all sorts of situations, casualties and tragedy is configured as his aesthetic of choice, permeated by archetypal and "universal images". His works have their own sense of harmony and sometimes lead to an initial estrangement because they present an almost absence of finishing and refinement. The artist highlights corrections and imperfections, not as a mere curiosity in the process of creating the work but with the specific objective of evoking feelings of carelessness and abandonment correlated to the subject. This technical and ingenious peculiarity, combined with his acute perception of reality, emphasizes his creative/poetic coherence, making Edu Verenguel a respected artist acquired by collectors and connoisseurs.

Presentation

Born in a small Brazilian town with many Japanese immigrants, Edu Verenguel was influenced mainly by its rich iconography. The allegories that prevail in this culture, of disenchantment, illusion, impermanence expressed by catastrophe and the feeling of imminent tragedy, creating all kinds of confusion, calamities and commotions, are present in his works. His production is unique and curiously magnetic to the eye, responsive to the evocations that exist in the collective psyche and at the same time completely unconventional.
