Journey Home: A Mother's Tale, 2023

Tetiana Pchelnykova

In "The Cycle of Being: Journey Home: A Mother's Tale" by Ukrainian artist Tetiana Pchelnikova is a refined continuation of her deep artistic exploration of women's role in society. This large oil painting on an 80x80 cm canvas depicts a mother carrying her sleeping daughter in her arms, walking along a path with the wind blowing in her face.
This work illustrates the connection between generations, portraying the woman as a transmitter of wisdom and cultural traditions. The image of the mother, possibly narrating a fairy tale to her daughter as they journey, reflects the woman's role as a guide of knowledge and stories. This theme is central in Pchelnikova's work, emphasizing the importance of intuitive understanding and the transmission of knowledge from generation to generation.
Fairy-tale birds and animals flying nearby, and a mythical horse grazing in distant meadows, add a magical and profound dimension to the scene. The ornaments on the birds, reminiscent of Ukrainian house paintings and towel embroidery, infuse elements of traditional Ukrainian art, enhancing the cultural context and symbolism of the work.
This painting is not just a representation of maternal love and care, but also reflects the powerful connection to the past and the roots, a theme Pchelnikova consistently explores in her art. "Journey Home: A Mother's Tale" is a hymn to women's wisdom and strength, reflecting the inner world of the artist, her interests, and the result of her experiments with form and material.

Materials: There is an original oil painting on the gallery stretched canvas.I use traditional oil and acrylic paints to create multi-layered visual narratives that resonate with the symbols and ornamentation of historical cultures. My works are filled with color, ethnic decor, and are illustrative at the same time.I paint figuratively and I like to mix the naivistic with the realistic. Regardless of what Im painting, it's always an atmosphere that is depicted.
