Description
Wang Jojo is a contemporary Chinese artist. She draws an ancient myth. His works are free, romantic, dreamlike with an oriental flavor; sex and innocence dialogue in a game between fantasy and reality. She draws inspiration for her works from ukiyo-e and yamato-e (traditional Japanese painting styles). His goal is to find the common aesthetic between past Japanese painting and ancient Chinese myth. The artist tries to rediscover what she calls the "aesthetics of the East", which is born naturally within the woman and from a free power which connects the inner "me" and nature. According to the artist, the world is inside “me”, while I am also a part of the world. The representation of female figures is the dominant motif and concept of Wang Jojo's works. These women, represented in traditional Eastern clothing, all have a different look. They fly, emerge from clouds and have fantastic hair that moves freely like winds and waves, making them mysterious, sensual and feminine. These images are not portraits of real women, but of idealized characters, goddesses of the imagination. They are sexual personae from an old Asian story.
