Nicolas Maalouly

"There is no beginning or end, there is only one and the same picture which is different each time and which must be redefined the next time"

Nicolas Maalouly's work reveals itself as a true poetic encounter.
It draws the viewer into a very personal story made up of modules associated like so many pieces of imagination.
The paper he uses in all its forms vibrates and shivers; peeled skins, sutured tears attract the gaze which is submerged in them.
The scenario is invented live.
In the interlacing of letters and signs subject to the chance of informal encounters, nothing is explicit.
The paths that Nicolas Maalouly takes us on are those of sensitive discovery, of the intimacy of a man with a constantly questioned aesthetic universe.
To better understand the close relationship between his works, we must consider the possibility of a round trip that takes us a little further each time.
A story of uprooting, a dream nourished by images and textures that give rhythm and color another perception of reality.
His work raises the question of the place we make for others and especially the place we make for each person.
From the modular unit that can function by itself to the entity of the canvas, it opens up new horizons and new possibilities for us.
Faithful to his masters J. Villeglé and Raymond Hains, he finds his singularity in the alternation of the plastic propositions that he explores.
It finds its line, its form, its strength in the reconciliation affirmed in broad daylight.
Each canvas is a piece of inner landscape to take with you to recompose yourself.

"To summarize my work, I often say with humor that I draw squares; in reality I have found in the vocabulary of geometry and construction a free and random expression."
