Description
This abstract artwork, presented in a natural wood frame, immediately captures the eye with its fluid and dynamic curves. The forms are painted in harmonious shades of pink, green, and yellow that contrast beautifully against a deep blue background. The interplay of lines suggests movement, almost a dance, adding a vibrant dimension to the painting. Each color blends delicately into another, creating an effect of transparency and layering. The composition seems to explore fluidity and transformation, evoking feelings of freedom and energy. The softened edges and color transitions bring a sense of gentleness and balance. The interaction between the forms suggests human figures in a harmonious embrace, stimulating the imagination. This painting is a celebration of color and movement, inviting the viewer to freely interpret its meaning.
Presentation
Sol Cattino (born 1996 in Aubagne) lives and works in Marseille, where she graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in 2020. Her painting and drawing work draws inspiration from everyday life, whether filmed through her phone's lens or experienced in her social interactions. Her work reflects both her personal obsessions and a portrait of a generation addicted to social media and instant gratification.
Sol Cattino mainly uses oil paint and juggles a wide variety of formats, from the immense to the miniature, including unexpected shapes of canvases, stretchers and frames, which break conventions and redefine the boundaries of traditional painting.
His approach, both contemporary and uninhibited, reinterprets major artistic genres, from genre painting to still life. These classic subjects are rendered with a new energy, blending an expressive and dynamic touch with a varied palette, some nuances of which are reminiscent of the vibrant and plastic colors of our contemporary accessories.
Through his work, Sol Cattino creates icons of our time, ambivalent and hurried, which, like his painting, bear witness to a sincere freedom of expression, mixed with a sense of inevitable urgency.
His work has been exhibited at, among other places, the Spiaggia Libera gallery in Marseille in 2024 and 2025, Chapelle XIV in Paris in 2021, and the Cantini museum in 2019.
