Description
This striking artwork features a young child seated on a red and white checkered floor, engaging viewers with a poignant blend of innocence and curiosity. The child, depicted with intricate detail, wears a bright green dress, contrasting vividly with the oversized black shoes on the floor. Nearby, a broken pink sandal adds an element of narrative intrigue. The background showcases two large, colorful containers—one green, the other white set against warm, earthy tones that envelop the scene in a sense of domesticity. The hyper-realistic texture of the girl's skin and the reflective surfaces of the shoes highlight the artist's skillful handling of light and shadow. This composition's unique juxtaposition of scale underscores themes of growth and exploration, capturing a moment of playful imagination with profound depth.
Presentation
Adewumi Emmanuel, born in 1997 in Ondo State, is a Nigerian artist who started his art journey at Angelo Art Academy while he pursued a B.A Degree in History and International Studies at ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY AKUNGBA, Ondo State, Nigeria. His work professes profound meaning about spirit, life, and humanity.
Adewumi creates works that reflect emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence in his contemporary world. The central themes in his art are identity, mental health, relationships, and spiritual awareness.
In his work, the artist hopes to bring to the fore how much we are meant to value ourselves and the moments we share with others as they pass us by. Emmanuel's surrealist portraits of contemporary Black figures are classic compositions with vibrant colors, expressive strokes, and textured shades. The artist believes that life's beauty rooted in the soul is watered by the spirit; this makes his work's creation procedures a meditative practice in which he explores the human condition in all its colorful arrays. According to Adewumi, "Knowledge about one's worth influences frequency of altitude and attitude a human possesses which can shape narratives regardless of time, like a living piece of art", so the artist sees painting as the true expression of the artist's soul on the canvas. In essence, Adewumi creates relatable and spirit-lifting paintings with the intent to liberate confined emotions and inspire souls to reach out for the best.
