About
An innocent cutting from a monstera plant quickly shoots out into a monster, stretching out the canvas to make space for its winding branches, taking up the space it deserves. This artwork features a striking, triangular composition showcasing a potted plant with lush, vibrant green leaves. Rendered in a stylized manner, the plant exudes a lively energy, its leaves sprawling in varied directions, emphasizing nature's organic unpredictability. The pot is depicted in a rich, warm red hue that contrasts sharply with the blue surface it rests upon, adding depth and a grounding balance to the image. The plant stands out against a pale, textured backdrop that incorporates subtle grid-like patterns, enhancing the modern, graphic quality of the piece. The unique triangular shape of the canvas alters traditional perspectives, challenging viewers to reconsider spatial norms. This innovative artwork captivates with its bold color scheme and dynamic composition, skillfully blending elements of modern art and natural beauty.
Presentation
Max is a self-taught artist who began making work in 2020 during lockdown, entering art not through formal training but through compulsion. Creating feels less like a choice and more like a nervous tick — a constant need for stimulation that art temporarily satisfies. With a background in maths and education, Max approaches image-making with a structured mind, even as the work itself resists order with anarchic elements.
Often struggling with verbal communication, Max uses visuals as an expressive language. His work develops its own visual grammar, built from bold graphics, illustrative fragments and scrappy, high-energy compositions. Humour plays a key role, often emerging through the juxtaposition of clean graphic elements with looser, illustrative marks and popular culture references.
The work draws heavily from vintage ephemera, kitsch tat & branding iconography: sampling and collaging references into chaotic yet deliberate compositions.
