Batman is a 2025 acrylic on canvas (97 × 97 cm), created during the Pulpa Street Art Gallery at Aurum in Pescara, and part of the collection. In this work, the iconic figure of Batman is reimagined through a deeply human and unexpected lens: the superhero appears not as an untouchable symbol of strength, but as an aging man, marked by time, wearing the mask as a fragile remnant of identity.
Set against a loosely defined urban backdrop, rendered with expressive and fluid brushstrokes, the figure emerges with a striking emotional presence. The contrast between the dark, rigid mask and the exposed, vulnerable body creates a powerful tension. The subject, dressed in a partially open red plaid shirt, reveals a sense of intimacy and imperfection, far removed from the traditional heroic narrative. The city behind him—suggested rather than described—becomes a psychological space rather than a physical one.
The painterly approach is dynamic and gestural, with visible strokes that convey both immediacy and depth. Light and color play a crucial role, shaping the face and body while dissolving the surroundings into a vibrant, almost unstable atmosphere. The result is a portrait suspended between reality and fiction, strength and decline.
Through this reinterpretation, questions the myth of the hero, shifting the focus from power to vulnerability, from myth to humanity. The mask no longer defines the hero—it conceals a more complex, fragile identity. As part of the series, the work reflects on the transformation of contemporary icons, translating urban visual culture into an intimate and introspective pictorial language.
Edoardo Ettorre was born in L'Aquila, Italy, in 1994. After attending the Marie Curie Scientific High School in Giulianova (TE), he enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts of L'Aquila in 2013. During his academic years, he began to explore painting, developing a spontaneous and gestural approach that remains the defining trait of his work today.
In 2015/16 and again in 2018/19, he lived in Valencia (Spain), where he studied at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) through the Erasmus program.
His practice spans multiple fields of visual art, with a particular interest in installation and street art—languages that often coexist within his projects. Alongside his international experience, his work began to reflect a growing attention to contemporary social dynamics and critical commentary. In February 2020, he completed his Master's degree at the Academy of Fine Arts of L'Aquila. He currently focuses primarily on painting, moving fluidly between small-format works and large-scale murals.
Working with various techniques, Ettorre depicts familiar scenes captured from everyday life—moments we observe either attentively or absentmindedly, such as a waitress on the phone or a snapshot of an evening among friends. His poetic vision centers on the relationship between the individual and society, exploring the “pre-packaged" world we inhabit. Through these themes, he invites viewers to reflect, often employing a subtle sense of irony and sarcasm.
