Description
This artwork masterfully combines vibrant color and dreamlike imagery to create a mesmerizing scene. The focal point is an ornate wooden door flanked by a gnarled tree bearing fruit, its branches intertwining with the architecture. Rich hues of teal, yellow, and orange create a harmonious contrast, imbuing the painting with a sense of warmth and mystique. The blurred, fluid brushstrokes suggest motion, evoking a sense of passing time or an unfolding dream. The interplay of light and shadow adds depth, drawing the viewer into this ethereal landscape. The artwork's abstract composition invites contemplation, allowing for personal interpretation of its symbolic elements. This piece uniquely balances realism with abstraction, offering a vision that is both familiar and fantastical. Its enchanting, vibrant energy captures the imagination, leaving a lasting impression.
Presentation
Born in Turin, Italy in 1963, Alex Bertaina's creative expression began in early childhood where his passion for drawing and bold colours originated. Though Alex considers art to be his primary tool for communicating with the world, it wasn't until an injury in his mid-20's left him homebound, that he began to focus on his dream of becoming an artist.
As a self-taught painter, Alex never attended art school. However, in 1988 he was mentored under the guidance of Master, Marco lattes. From here he began to refine his technical skills and knowledge. Bertaina has since gone on to exhibit across Europe and beyond. In 2014 his work saw him awarded the prestigious title of Taipei's 'Master of the Year' and in 2016, Ukrainian composer Nik Savinich dedicated a session of his piano recordings to Alex, simply titled 'Bertaina'.
Currently living and working in Cuneo, Northwest Italy, Alex says “Painting is for me this dreamed landscape [consisting of] vertical or horizontal cuts… superimposing interplays, dismantled and dense images that look like rainbow geometries full of light and colour, [reflecting] its vibrancy and brilliance".
