In Graffiti Origins, the artist revisits the very foundations of street art by confronting two temporalities: the primitive instinct of creation and contemporary visual codes.
The raw, almost primal silhouette evokes the earliest forms of human expression, while the iconic smiley face—a universal symbol of pop culture—appears freshly spray-painted. This powerful contrast questions our relationship to image, control, and spontaneity.
The deliberate dripping of the smiley face reinforces the urban aesthetic and suggests a loss of control, echoing the series title. The work thus oscillates between technical mastery (precise stencil) and graphic abandon.
