Description
An exceptional original acrylic painting on linen by renowned Dutch contemporary artist Rob Scholte.
Signed and dated verso.
Characteristic of Scholte's conceptual approach, the work transforms a technical diagram into a compelling artistic composition, blurring the boundaries between art, design and everyday visual culture.
Stretcher size: approximately 160 × 100 cm.
This painting was included in the exhibition "Rob Scholte – Reproductie verplicht" at Museum de Fundatie, Zwolle, the Netherlands, in 2021–2022, highlighting its significance within the artist's oeuvre.
The composition reproduces a hand-drawn technical instruction sheet, complete with handwritten notes, diagrams, tables, symbols and traces of colour.
Typical of Rob Scholte's artistic practice, the work explores themes of appropriation, reproduction and authorship. By transferring a utilitarian image onto canvas, Scholte questions traditional ideas of originality and artistic value, demonstrating how familiar visual material can acquire entirely new meaning within the context of contemporary art. The result is a composition that is at once analytical, ironic and visually captivating.
Rob Scholte (born 1958) is one of the Netherlands' most influential Conceptual Artists. Since the 1980s, he has gained international recognition for his paintings, installations and appropriated imagery, challenging conventional ideas of originality, authorship and visual culture.
His works have been exhibited in leading museums and public collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, and Museum de Fundatie, Zwolle. Original paintings by Rob Scholte are highly sought after by collectors of Dutch Contemporary Art and Conceptual Art.
