Description
A fragile architecture rises in the heart of a dense nature. This acrylic painting explores the notion of shelter through a perched structure, similar to a nest. The building is composed of superimposed volumes, supported by unstable stilts.
The line of pencil and ballpoint pen comes to define the contours of this ephemeral dwelling. These graphic lines contrast with the generous material of the background.
Blue dominates the composition, evoking a nocturnal or marine atmosphere. Touches of ochre and red warm up the facade, while a pale star watches over the scene.
The surrounding vegetation blends into a play of organic textures. The artist uses natural pigments and materials to give relief to the landscape.
This work invites reflection on the place of man and his need for protection against the elements. The gaze moves between the rigor of the angles and the fluidity of the trees.
The whole is stabilized by a balanced chromatic palette, punctuated by rosy shades in the foreground. The artist's signature is in the bottom right corner.
Presentation
Florence Malcombe feeds on the present, with infinite precision fixes the moment. She dives into the marine abysses, loses herself in all horizons, loses herself in limitless spaces.
So she builds, assembles and structures the shelter. The shelter, the habitat, the dwelling, the cabin, the city, fragile and ephemeral. The shelters at the very top of the totems, perched like birds' nests, protected untouchable!....
But isn't man's first shelter his own body, the fleshly envelope, the skin, the first rampart against external aggression? His work reveals this body to us, in its transparency, the strength of the feeling in front of his paintings is uncompromising.
The body becomes an architecture, and its architectures come to life! Florence Malcombe's work offers a reflection on the place of man on earth.
She is a complete artist. Over several years of research, she has developed a technique that is unique to her. Her paintings are filled with natural materials that she gleans, that she steals from the sea to return them to the sea(e) with her very personal technique, powdery materials thirsty for pigments that she happily waters.
