Description
An assembly of gourmand shapes is displayed on a powdered pink background. Shades of white, blue, and gray intertwine to compose these rounded objects. Each piece is sprinkled with small dark dots, evoking chocolate shards or seeds.
The gesture is assured. The acrylic paint is applied in broad and decisive strokes. A tension is perceived between the chromatic softness and the roughness of the line.
The contrast emphasizes the materiality of the volumes. The bluish shadows anchor the composition in space. Some discreet drips mark the bottom of the support, recalling the raw aspect of the creation.
This work plays on repetition and saturation. The light seems to emanate from the center of the forms, creating a marked visual relief. The whole rests in a kind of dark frame, carefully delimiting the scene. This painting from 2013 explores the visual sensation through an everyday subject.
Presentation
Mohamed Abusal is a Palestinian multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores everyday life in Gaza through painting, photography, video, installation, and conceptual art. His work often begins with familiar experiences such as restricted movement, limited infrastructure, and shortages of basic resources, transforming them into imaginative and sometimes humorous artistic ideas. By moving between reality and fiction, Abusal creates alternative ways of thinking about mobility, technology, freedom, and daily life.
Born in Gaza in 1976, Abusal initially studied accounting before turning to art and design and developing his artistic practice independently. He has been active in Gaza's contemporary art scene and is a founding member of Eltiqa, an artists' collective established in Gaza. His projects often imagine alternative forms of infrastructure and movement, including A Metro in Gaza, which proposes a fictional transportation network connecting different parts of the Strip. Abusal has exhibited widely in Palestine and internationally and currently continues his artistic practice from his art studio in Marseille, France.Â
