Mohamed Abusal

Mohamed Abusal is a Palestinian multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores everyday life in Gaza through painting, photography, video, installation, and conceptual art. His work often begins with familiar experiences such as restricted movement, limited infrastructure, and shortages of basic resources, transforming them into imaginative and sometimes humorous artistic ideas. By moving between reality and fiction, Abusal creates alternative ways of thinking about mobility, technology, freedom, and daily life.

Born in Gaza in 1976, Abusal initially studied accounting before turning to art and design and developing his artistic practice independently. He has been active in Gaza's contemporary art scene and is a founding member of Eltiqa, an artists' collective established in Gaza. His projects often imagine alternative forms of infrastructure and movement, including A Metro in Gaza, which proposes a fictional transportation network connecting different parts of the Strip. Abusal has exhibited widely in Palestine and internationally and currently continues his artistic practice from his art studio in Marseille, France.
