When something terrible and inevitable happens in life, such as death or trauma, it is incredibly difficult to endure. It becomes a little easier when intense grief is transformed into sadness. The feeling of grief erodes a person from within and destroys them, whereas sadness consolidates and binds. Sadness is an adult emotion. When children play and a beetle dies during their game, they simply bury it under a pile of fallen leaves, move on with their play, and forget all about it. The beetle's death is not a horrific event that causes grief; it is just a little sad. But it is survivable. And besides, on the hills near the house where the children live, seeds are already beginning to sprout, for spring is just around the corner.
