Moi Playing Around the River (B), 2022

Lemoi Ning

Lemoi Ning is a Taiwanese artist born in 1981 who lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan. She has embarked on a creative journey in 2021 that will bring to life the endearing characters known as “ME”. These characters, including the little red-haired girl ME and the larger-than-life Mr. Duke residing in ME's heart, served as gateways to the cherished memories and inner world of the artist's childhood.

Lemoi's artistic endeavors are rooted in the stories of "childhood home" and the tales preserved in his memory, weaving a common thread of creativity. Into the enchanting kingdom of Lemoi, inviting you to enter a world where his memories come to life. Each story from his past, with its complex and layered meanings, serves as a seed that found its way into his young heart. Over the years, this seed has undergone a magical transformation, unfolding in myriad forms, both real and imagined.

ME is the central figure of this mystical world, where the artist meticulously reinterprets each little tale of the miniature universe that is in his heart. Lemoi's works transport you to a dream village filled with fanciful wonders, reflecting the landscapes of our imagination and evoking precious childhood memories.

Yet these paintings are not without mature aspects: the main character's deep red hair carries an adult aura, giving the work a striking and evocative presence. This symbolism resonates with love, passion, anger, power, and courage, allowing viewers to connect to the paintings on a deeply personal and relatable level.

Lemoi's art demonstrates the continual growth and transformation that life entails, with each new appearance revealing the artist's evolving perceptions and experiences. In this magical world, MOI presents itself as a constant companion, reinventing the tales that have left an indelible mark in the artist's heart.
