Description
Created in 2017 in collaboration with Tarek, this work is part of a pictorial language where urban culture becomes poetic material. The portrait, reduced to an almost iconic presence, stands out on a luminous blue and dialogues with the imagination of New York and Gotham.
At the crossroads of Pop Art and Street Art, the work combines graphic power, signs and gestures, in a composition where ink, acrylic, and stencil build a resolutely contemporary aesthetic. The Posca interventions and architectural references infuse the whole with a fragmented, almost cinematic rhythm.
Between figuration and graphic abstraction, this piece questions the way the city, its mythologies, and its visual codes shape our collective imagination. A work with a strong presence, driven by a subtle balance between shadow, light, and urban energy.
Presentation
Tarek and Mat Elbé met in Damascus, Syria while performing their military service cooperation. 1996 is the year of their meeting and 2014, is the year of their first artistic collaboration!
Back in France, Mat Elbé joined the team of the magazine "Paris Tonkar" directed by Tarek, the editor-in-chief. He got to know Yarps and other stencil artists who made him want to go to the other side of the mirror. Tarek, who had been painting since he was 14, offered him to paint canvases with four hands on themes they both appreciate: pop culture and New York... They have traveled many times to Montreal and New York. York: they launched the From Gotham project, an artistic project around exhibitions, publications, muralism, street art, and live painting on the theme of New York...
