Description
The Shallows is an original abstract artwork inspired by the dynamic and mysterious life of shallow waters. The serene atmosphere created by icy blue and white tones is interrupted by bursts of black, red, and yellow at the center of the composition. This contrast evokes the vibrant and ever-changing nature of tidal pools and coral reefs.
Drawing on my background in sculpture, I approached this work not simply as a two-dimensional painting, but as a tactile, three-dimensional surface. The thick layers of oil paint, applied using a palette knife, create a distinct sense of volume and rhythm. As lighting conditions change, moving shadows emerge across the textured surface, continuously transforming the viewer's perception of the work.
Technique: Sculptural, heavy three-dimensional impasto texture created with a palette knife.
Display: Painted edges; ready to hang unframed.
