Morning at Gruszka's place, 2014

Janusz Szpyt

Janusz Szpyt was born in 1960, he is a Polish painter. He graduated from the Graphic design faculty and painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. 1983 onward, he became the member of the « Group of Three » (Grupa Trzech) also called « Tercet nadety ».

"Even though a lot is shown in realist painting, one realizes that realism can always defend itself. Especially, when it tells us the truth about the world, when it goes beyond borders of naturalism and grasps our reality. The artist mainly paints Passion, scenes from the Bible and nudes. These paintings, regardless of their themes, always represent Man. This man is always in a precise situation. The events are shown in the background, tense muscles and expression on the face give the possibility to decipher the psychic and spiritual condition, which influence peoples' behavior and their decisions. The artist not only shows the physical aspect of these models but also their psyche, by highlighting the truth, as the philosophers always strive to show. This is the reason why, Szpyt's paintings are very humane in this time period, often devoid of humanism" said Katarzyna Napiórkowska about Janusz Szpyt.
