Description
The action guides the brush. The gesture becomes a trace. The gaze gets lost in a dense intertwining of lines. The colors clash and overlap without hierarchy.
Yellow dominates the composition. It brings a solar light to the heart of the organized chaos. Filaments of white, red, and blue come to rhythmize the space. Each stroke seems to translate an urgency, a perpetual movement.
The surface saturates the visual field. The absence of a focal point invites global contemplation. The spectator traverses a complex network of crossed trajectories. The material accumulates in successive layers.
This approach recalls lyrical abstraction. Chance is mastered by instinct. The contrast between warm and cool tones creates a constant visual tension.
The composition saturates the edges of the frame. The energy seems to overflow the canvas. This work explores the spontaneity of the line on a neutral background. Each superposition of paint defines a remarkable physical depth.
Presentation
Born in 1939 in Mortagne sur Gironde, in Charente-Maritime, he marries at the age of 20. Very young, he begins a long series of travels around the world that will last nearly 40 years. His professional life and the numerous affairs he manages oblige him to divide his time between Black Africa, mainly Abidjan, and Nouméa in New Caledonia. He becomes a confirmed expert in African Art and advises the best international collectors. Since his youngest age Christian Debenest has been fascinated by drawing, and more particularly by comics. His occupations will oblige him to limit himself to drawing that he frequently does in inseparable travel notebooks. At the end of the 80s he dedicates himself to painting, drawing inspiration since 1997 from the hypothetical "string theory". He creates this approach as being the tense flows.
