Description
In this work from the A series, Jean-Jacques Marie deploys all the energy of his projection technique across a canvas teeming with movement and color. The flashes of yellow, white and red mingle in a whirlwind of dynamic lines, forming a complex network of trajectories. The intensity of the bright colors contrasts with the darker tones, creating an effect of depth that continuously attracts the eye. Each projection seems to spring from a source of pure energy, and the whole evokes a chaotic dance where freedom of gesture is at the heart of the creative process. The richness of the textures and the diversity of the layers of paint testify to a work where movement becomes both the subject and the medium, capturing a moment of raw emotion on the canvas.
In the A series, Jean-Jacques Marie immerses himself in a creative process freed from any formal constraints, where gesture becomes the direct expression of his emotions. Inspired by Action Painting, the artist lets instinct guide his movements, capturing the raw and spontaneous energy of the moment. Each canvas is an explosion of colors and lines, a snapshot of his quest to explore chaos and order, seeking to make feel rather than explain. This series reflects his desire to transcend form to achieve emotional purity through gesture.
Presentation
Jean-Jacques Marie is an artist whose atypical and passionate career reflects a relentless quest for new forms of expression. Born in 1949 in the Paris region, he initially distanced himself from his passion for art, yielding to social pressures that guided him towards a more conventional life. At the age of forty, however, he decided to devote himself fully to his vocation, beginning a creative journey marked by experimentation, self-taught work and a profound transformation of his artistic approach.
Exploring various mediums, including Chinese ink, he discovered avant-garde Asian abstraction, which redefined his art. This evolution led him from figurative to a lyrical and vibrant abstraction. He then developed a unique technique, "Projected Abstraction", where the paint is projected vertically onto textured backgrounds, giving his works a visual and tactile dynamic, close to action painting through its frenetic and expressive gestures.
This metamorphosis marks a reinvention of his artistic vision, where each work becomes a projection of his unconscious. For Jean-Jacques Marie, abstraction goes beyond the simple final result to become a creative process freed from any figurative constraint. His works reflect a deep introspection, combining spontaneity and technical mastery to directly touch the viewer's soul.
Today, he continues to explore the boundaries of abstraction with an insatiable curiosity, affirming that his artistic journey is far from over. His approach, rooted in a reflection on the language of color and form, remains a perpetual quest for balance between order and chaos, between control and letting go. Each work represents a new step in this journey, a window opened onto the depths of his inner universe.
Jean-Jacques Marie is represented by the Galerie Hurtebize (Cannes).
