Description

The background of the painting is neither a wall nor an empty void; it is the Suprematist white nothingness—an infinite cosmic space devoid of gravity. The dense, impasto texture of the white emphasizes that this is not an absence of matter, but a state of extreme energetic tension ready to generate new forms. The shapes here are tethered neither to the top nor the bottom; they float weightlessly within this absolute space.

The color palette is strictly limited and conceptual, speaking the language of pure pigments:

Ultramarine Blue: The color of infinite distance and cold intellect. Blue rectangles, squares, and hovering geometric fragments break free from the plane, generating optical momentum.

Terracotta Red (Ochre): A heavy, pulsating mass. The large truncated circle on the right acts as a powerful planetary volume—a gravitational pole locked in conflict with the lighter blue forms.

Black: The point of absolute stillness, a concentration of pure force. Black lines and spheres serve as a framework, preventing the composition from disintegrating.

The title (Equalizing / Frequency Tuning) aligns seamlessly with Suprematist logic. The painting visualizes the process of a cosmic tuning of energies:

The Central Block: The rectangular structure at the center functions as an energetic node. The diagonal lines (vectors) piercing through it shatter stasis and introduce dynamic velocity.

Rhythmic Vibration: The pulsating sequences of small blue verticals and dots represent pure rhythm—the visualization of an invisible wave, sound, or electromagnetic oscillation propagating through the void.

The Ladder into Non-Objectivity: The stepped ladder-like form in the lower right corner is stripped of any utilitarian function. In Suprematism, this serves as a vector guide, an escape route from the flat plane into multi-dimensional space, and an instrument for ascending toward pure sensation.

Presentation

Sebastián Camps is a Spanish painter, graphic artist, printmaker, and exhibition curator.

Origins and Formative Years:

Sebastián Camps was born in 1949 in Tangier (then the Tangier International Zone). The development of his artistic vision coincided with the 1960s—a pivotal era marked by the rise of Pop Art, Minimalism, and the European avant-garde. He later established his life and professional career in Spain, settling in Malaga (Andalusia).

Artistic Career:

The artist held his first solo exhibition over half a century ago, in the late 1960s in Malaga. Throughout his extensive career, Camps has participated in more than forty solo and group exhibitions across Madrid, Malaga, Seville, Granada, Cádiz, and Almería, as well as in international art fairs (including ArtFair in Germany).

Multidisciplinary Practice:

Beyond easel painting (oil, acrylic) and drawing, he has actively worked in fine art printmaking (silkscreen, etching) and design, and has curated more than 30 art exhibitions.

Visual Language: His work is rooted in expressive abstraction, lyrical expressionism, and neo-avant-garde aesthetics.

Technique and Process: His pieces frequently feature mixed media (oil, acrylic, ink, collage). The artist often integrates fragments of earlier sketches and unfinished canvases into new compositions, creating a nuanced dialogue between space and time.

Sebastián Camps's works are held in prestigious national institutions and collections throughout Spain:

Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid)

Fundación Picasso Museo Casa Natal (Malaga)

Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo (Marbella)

Regional and governmental collections (Junta de Andalucía, City Council of Malaga, Provincial Deputations of Malaga, Cádiz, and Almería)

Banking institution foundations (Unicaja, Caja de Ahorros San Fernando, La General de Granada) and private collections both in Spain and internationally.
