Description

A big-city avenue at night, after the rain. That is the whole subject of the painting — and it is far more than that.

The composition is built around a powerful central perspective: the roadway plunges into depth towards an incandescent vanishing point, where traffic lights, signs and headlamps gather into a vibrant orange mass. On either side, the buildings rise as dark verticals — plum, deep brown, olive green, almost black — treated in broad vertical bands that never describe a precise architecture but suggest its mass and height.

A few cars cross the foreground, reduced to their essential silhouette: a bonnet, a windscreen, the white blot of a headlight. They are painted rapidly, without detail, yet their position and scale are enough to establish traffic and movement. The pedestrian crossing, a few oblique white strokes, anchors the scene in reality.

It is the ground that carries the painting's true beauty. The wet asphalt becomes a distorting mirror in which everything doubles into long vertical runs: the fluorescent pinks of tail lights, the pale turquoises of shop windows, the golden creams of the street lamps descend in liquid trails to the bottom of the canvas. These reflections, painted in bold, elongated strokes, occupy nearly half the surface — the real city and its inverted image carry equal weight here.

The palette is characteristic of Adam Wajerczyk: a muted base of browns, purples and grey-greens, over which saturated accents explode — magenta, turquoise, gold. Two large pale diagonals cross the canvas at the lower left and right, like trails of light or suspended cables, contradicting the rigour of the perspective. The gesture is visible everywhere: knife strokes, impasto, scrapings, the grain of the canvas left exposed.

From a distance, one reads a precise, almost photographic street. Up close, everything comes apart into a field of abstract strokes. This back-and-forth between recognition and dissolution is the painter's signature: the city is not described, it is felt — like a memory of light rather than a topographical survey.

Presentation

Polish painter of great talent residing in Kujawsko-Pomorskie.

Self-taught, born in 1975, his works arouse such enthusiasm that they are sold without his needing to hold exhibitions. After a deserved success in his country, he tackles the Western market by entering the best European galleries.

It should quickly be listed in all the Art rating guides.
