Black Sheep

France Born in: 1972 Bestsellers

In Paris, visual activist Brice Barast walks the streets, his case in hand. For several years, even in his own neighborhood in the 20th arrondissement, he has never gone out without his camera, on the lookout for the smallest detail that will generate the desire to take a snapshot. Humanist photographer in the style of Henri Cartier Bresson or even Doisneau, Brice Barast signs his photographs with the pseudo Black Sheep. There's even a bit of Lee Jeffries in his style. Always in black and white, it is part of the current of street photography. Instant shooting, precise and faithful without artifice, all the work of this French photographer is realistic and objective without seeking artistic effect.

Black Sheep is the English version of the expression black sheep. And this is felt through his work, a sort of mirror or introspective research. A face, an attitude, a demonstration, a dad with his children, two friends who drink a glass, a woman wearing a medical mask… This is the life that this photographer tells who puts a little of himself in each shot with the wish to show the invisible. These are those who leave the societal framework and of which he produces very accurate portraits.

With a skin-deep emotivity, now 48 years old, Black Sheep knows, with a lot of maturity, to seize in his objective situations of chance which transform into message. Urban inscriptions or even advertising posters inside the photo become its very legend.

Black Sheep's work dramatically captures the vibrancy and emotional intensity of life. There is a kind of tenacity in Black Sheep's work. Thanks to his photos, will we be able to overcome prejudices and fight stereotypes? No one has the answer, but in any case, the photographer opens the way to understanding.
