About the artwork

Artwork sold in perfect condition

Le Temps des Grenadines: “Childhood is the embodiment of essential and unalterable values with regard to time and generations. However, the candor of his games, the belief in his oaths, the constancy of his friendships, the imagination of his kingdoms, fade with the passage of new stages of life. It is in the search for these values, through memories, that Dan Aucante rediscovers his past with his child as an anonymous actor in these lost moments. Then come the emotions of the present, the look of a father on the childhood of his son who seeks his identity and proposes his desires through his imagination, his mysteries. And finally the future, questions about the inexorable advance of time, fears about inevitable losses, the march of generations... Deliberately timeless, these three fractions of time take us through childhood on the path of life, of our life. ". Dan Aucante quickly fell in love with photography. Therefore, the practice of this medium will be intended for the human being and his environment. At the age of 25 he decided to travel the world. In 1997, he moved to Paris and became a freelance photographer following his studies at the Spéos photographic institute. His photographs and projects related to the live stage lead him to collaborate with the Théâtre de la Ville de Paris, the Center National de la Danse, as well as with artists including Christian Lacroix and Roland Petit. Very quickly, he specialized for the press in the portrait of artists. French institutions such as the Natural History Museum, the Social Action of the City of Paris, the State Secretariat for Overseas France and the General Councils of Île-de-France place orders with him. At the same time, he invests in personal and artistic projects. Between 1998 and 2003 he explores and engages in the portrait of populations in the disadvantaged neighborhoods of Paris. Dan Aucante's work is dominated by the rigor and the requirement of his approach, making his personal artistic research a permanent questioning. Thus, in 2002 he returned to black and white by approaching the medium format. In a series entitled "Limits" he looks at the ephemeral and vain imprint of man facing eternity along the European west coast. In 2004 and for nine years, in "Le Temps des Grenadines", whose common thread is childhood, he leans on existential themes that inhabit him: The influence of time, generations, filiation, memory , natural territories. From this series, a book was published by Bergger Éditions, finalist for the HIP prize in 2019. A logical continuation on adolescence, youth and its environment, begins at the end of summer 2016. It is the return to color. This new series, "Fire Game", addresses the influence of time on this period of transformation. This project, which combines fireworks with portraits of teenagers, describes an eventful and incandescent psychological episode. The diversity of landscapes suggests an environmental inventory of their universes in the near future.
